The UK's leading provider of synthetic turf, TigerTurf Ltd, recently teamed up with McArdle Sport-Tec Ltd to design, manufacture and install a full-size football pitch at the Newbridge High School Academy.
The third generation (3G)synthetic turfpitch is a first for North West Leicestershire and has been part-funded by the Football Foundation under its framework agreement.
Specifically created for football, TigerTurf's Soccer Real 60XQ has been tested to meet FIFA 1 and FIFA 2 Star standards. The system uses XQ fibre technology which fulfils the requirement for safety, performance and durability.
The 14 week installation programme was completed on time and to budget by McArdle Sport Tec Ltd and was handed over in September. This was then followed by an official opening, led by former Leicester City FC captain, Steve Walsh.
The new facility has a full-size (107m x 71m) synthetic football pitch with pitch drainage, goal recesses, hard-standing areas, footpaths and a new car parking area.
Paul Langford, Managing Director at TigerTurf Ltd said: "The synthetic turf is the ideal solution for Newbridge High School as it can be used during wet weather and won't degrade after consistent use. This is particularly important as the FA designated it a prime spot for community football and other local clubs have their eye on the pitch for training and matches."
"At TigerTurf we are committed to the development of high-quality products and we hope to continue working with partners such as McArdle Sport Tec Ltd to recommend and deliver products that meet specific sporting requirements."
Maxine Adams, Business Manager at Newbridge High School Academy, added: "We are delighted that a 3G artificial grass pitch has successfully come to North West Leicestershire and are extremely grateful to all who have worked incredibly hard to make this all possible, especially the excellent support from the Football Foundation from the very start of the project."
Since its opening in September, the pitch has become a focus of community involvement and has been a boost for local sport.
