The exciting scheme to improve the school's facilities had been designed not only to benefit King's pupils of all ages from Infants right through to Seniors, but also local clubs and community groups that use the facilities.
The new sports development constructed by McArdle Sport Tec included:
Simon Hyde, Headmaster, said: "I am delighted to see our boys and girls already putting these excellent facilities to good use, and holding regular fixtures and training sessions on the new McArdle Sport Tec all weather pitches. The cricket nets will be busy in the coming weeks, as our batters and bowlers prepare for the new season." He also added:
"The aims of the King's School include a commitment to providing benefit to the wider community. Our sports facilities are currently let to community groups on five nights a week and on both Saturday and Sunday. As well as benefitting these existing users, it is our intention to ensure maximum usage of the new facilities by our wider community and we hope that other sports clubs looking for high-quality, local provision may now benefit."
one of the UK's leading Independent schools for boys and girls aged 7-18, situated in the heart of Edinburgh,
The ‘McMurray’ pitch was christened with a home win for the leavers 1st XI against Glenalmond (3-1).
Peter Worlledge, Bursar added “The McMurray pitch has been a superb addition to the sporting facilities at Fettes College. We are delighted with the quality of the surface and the sheer playability of the pitch. McArdle worked quickly and diligently keeping us informed of timings and developments throughout the project to deliver a truly superior product”.
Reddish North End FC invested two bespoke playing surfaces, designed and constructed by McArdle Sport Tec Ltd and manufactured by leading artificial turf manufacturer, TigerTurf UK.
The new 51m x 79m pitch boasts an elite level third generation playing surface, TigerTurf Soccer Real 60 XQ, which is backed by FIFA 1 and 2 star.
A second 37m x 18.5m area was also installed using TigerTurf Football 60 XP Pro at the club's Mike Doyle Centre home - a third generation playing surface that can act as a multi-use games area thanks to its high wear and low maintenance properties.
McArdle Sport Tec Ltd also enhanced the new playing surfaces with the addition of perimeter fencing, hard standing areas, floodlights, piped drainage, swing-out freestanding goalposts, mowing strip, access paths, and de-tox areas.
Thanks to McArdle Sport Tec's and TigerTurfs collaborative flexible design approach, the 15 week project was successfully completed 11 days ahead of schedule despite the wettest UK winter on record.
John Hargreaves, Chairman at Reddish North End FC said:
"Everyone at the club is over the moon with our new playing surfaces, which will give each of our teams from under 7's through to under 17's access to some of the best playing facilities in the region."
"The standard of work carried out by McArdle was exceptional from start to finish, even in spite of some particularly challenging weather conditions, and we always had full confidence in the level of expertise and guidance we were offered throughout."
McArdle Sport Tec was the chosen Contractors to carry out this 3G project for Cardiff Metropolitan University. They worked alongside Jonathan Smith, of Geo-Turf who was the Consultant for this project.
McArdle proposed the TigerTurf surface Soccer Real 50XQ which was chosen by the College; after visiting one of their other football facilities. The carpet meets with FIFA 2Star recommendations and this was laid upon a 15mm insitu shockpad.
Chris Jennings, Assistant Director of Sport
"The University undertook extensive research prior to awarding the contract to install its first European standard (105m X 65m) football specific 3G pitch. From the point where the contract was awarded to the final hand over of the project and completion of the FIFA 2* certification, McArdle Sport-Tec provided a professional service and efficient management of the project through difficult weather conditions. The final outcome is a facility that has been highly praised by visiting teams, league officials and professional clubs."
The pitches are used for lectures, BUCS competitions and for the Cardiff Met teams who play in leagues outside BUCS competitions
